Research Chemist US Environmental Protection Agency 06/2010~present
• Successfully developed polymeric membranes based on polyamide, polyimide, PVA and fluorinated silicone, and their hybrid with zeolite for liquid-liquid separation at high temperature with distillation process;
• Synthesized water-borne, fluorinated polymeric membranes through radical polymerization (UV irradiation, emulsion and suspension) based on vinyl/acrylic-terminated monomers;
• Prepared dual-channels membranes by silicone-based amphiphilic copolymers, polymer blends and process formation control with thermal annealing and etching;
• Managed lab facilities including SOP writing, calibration, quality management for audit and EHS&S;
• 1 journal paper, 2 conference papers, 1 pending patent and 2 manuscripts.

• Developed 30 days long-term dual-phases silicone-based amphiphilic hydrogels film for biomedical devices and sensors applications - collaborated with CIBA Vision.
• Synthesized silicone hydrogels with designed chemical structure by emulsion, UV and radical polymerization methods based on the acrylic-terminated monomers/macromers with improved biocompatibility.
• Successfully developed hybrid thermoplastic composites, fiber-reinforced thermosets for structured materials and package application - collaborated with P&G.

• Scale up continuous production of EPDM/PP, NBR/PVC thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) by extrusion from lab to pilot plant with a load over 1000 ton/year.
• Developed hybrid POE, HNBR and EPDM rubber compounds with flame-resistance, low-heat generation and long lifetime for tank-track rubber pads (2 patents).
• Developed antibacterial rubber compounds with nanotitania as fibers, films, sheets. (1 paper at Polymer Journal at NATURE Publisher).
• Extensive training on rubber compounds based on VMQ, SBR, NBR, HNBR, EPDM, IR, IIR, FKM, CR and HNBR, especially in formulation design, reinforcement, vulcanization, long life and processing;
• Innovatively developed an evaluation method for inorganic-rubber compounds quality control based on the viscoleastic behavior and setup the model for general application (PhD dissertation);
• Developed short-fiber/ rubber foam composites and model the structures-properties relationship (MS thesis).
• Managed the lab instruments: Mechanical Tester (SANS) and Rubber Processing Analyzer (RPA2000) calibration, training and trouble-shooting.
