PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Delphi Medical Systems – Troy, MI
Engineering Manager – Research and Development 2004 - 2009
Recruited and directed a R&D team of engineers, designers and technicians assigned to multiple product teams developing Class II medical devices. Developed engineering processes while transitioning the organization from automotive to medical device industry. Guided engineering team through systems and device design from marketing requirements through verification and validation providing proven designs meeting customer’s requirements.
•Created streamlined Advanced Development Projects to solve technical challenges before they became issues during product development. RESULTS: Allowed product design and program timing to proceed uninterrupted due to previously resolved technical issues. This prevented any additional unexpected prototype builds during the product development process (PDP).
•Provided top management with budget forecast, resource planning and technology roadmaps to appropriately direct limited engineering resources towards the highest priority projects. RESULTS: Contributed to a controlled team growth and use of alternate resources to complete development when limited by size of engineering organization.
•Coordinated project management on key engineering project, including time line development and critical path analysis per special request of management for a technically challenging product. RESULTS: Assured development, design and transfer to manufacturing was complete as required to support marketing objectives and increased product life to 3x of its original value.
•Integrated Marketing, Human Factors, Industrial Design and Manufacturing input into device design and operation RESULTS: Improved outcomes for clinicians and patients including significant reduction in programming errors and reduced training time on infusion pumps.
•Implemented requirements reviews and verification plans in response to issues during product development using requirements tracing software. RESULTS: Assured that product design and documentation met the required marketing and regulatory initiatives with an estimated 80% reduction in late changes to the design and documentation.
Delphi Medical Systems – Troy, MI
Staff Research Engineer II – Start Center and Device Design 2003 – 2004
Created engineering designs and proposals for potential business opportunities and customers while evaluating technologies supporting business objectives. Utilized SolidWorks for concept development. Significant design work on infusion pumps, oxygen concentrators, patient monitors and wheelchair controls systems. Additional design experience in life science monitoring equipment, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) units and hemodialysis machines provided broad view of the medical field.
Delphi Body/Security – Brighton, MI
Staff Research Engineer II – Body/Security Systems 2001 - 2003
Systems engineering - responsible for specifications and integration of designs into the customers’ vehicles. Daily interaction with the customers on products ranging from integrated body controllers to intrusion/inclination sensors, taking ownership for component design into customers’ product.
•Guided design team efforts in Juarez, Mexico during transition of design responsibility from the US. Assured the design was based on customer's specifications and design requirements. RESULTS: Balanced customer’s needs and design constraints while keeping the design team focused on core issues. Prevented durability issues by coordinating redesign of product.
•Excellent customer interaction while working with various organizations at Ford to resolve vehicle level design issues and develop manufacturing assembly plans for product installation. RESULTS: Provided smooth integration into manufacturing for prototype and product introductions.
