Veterinary Officer at CDC in Atlanta, GA The Enteric Diseases Epidemiology Branch, in the Division of Foodborne Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking a candidate for the position of Veterinary Officer. The candidate in this position would serve as a liaison to the veterinary community and technical advisor for the Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work on the Farm educational program.
The primary goals of this position and the team are to assist the branch in implementing a health education program on appropriate use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine through development of a veterinary curriculum and funding state-based programs. In order to meet these goals, the Veterinary Officer would foster communication and collaboration with the veterinary community and key industry stakeholders. He/She would be responsible for leading a team to coordinate and provide technical assistance to health education campaigns addressing antimicrobial use in veterinary medicine.
The candidate would assist in developing educational materials and modules for the veterinary curriculum. He/She would also work with industry partners to design species-specific pilot programs and to find practical applications of appropriate antibiotic use. Some examples include, gathering knowledge, attitude, and practice data on prescribing and use practices and developing materials to illustrate the use of antibiograms and other diagnostic tools. The Veterinary Officer would also stay up-to-date and advise the branch of new technologies and intervention materials addressing antimicrobial resistance education. Applicants should possess either a DVM or DVM/MPH. Pay based upon experience.
