Supplier Quality Engineer
Primary Duties
„X Responsible for management and development of 40 multinational suppliers for both high volume and low volume diesel fuel system components: fuel injectors (piezo electric and coil based technologies), pumps, filters, coolers, various fluid control valves/actuators, sensors, and tubes/hoses. These suppliers supported and provided components to production facilities in Indianapolis IN, Chicago IL, Huntsville AL, and Brazil SA of various configurations and classes of diesel engines in excess of 400,000 units annually.
„X 70% travel as lead SQE for engine fuel system suppliers and components.
„X Lead contact in all 8D/corrective action problem solving methodologies. This included containment activities, root cause analysis, verification and validation and implementation of corrective action plans in supporting multiple internal engine assembly plants, multiple internal vehicle assembly plants and multiple customer vehicle assembly plants. Supported reliability in quarterly warranty component reviews conducted at the supply base for both Injectors and Pumps. Per the outcome of these reviews, I led the initial investigations as a result of these reviews. Using various problem solving methodologies (Is/Is not, Fishbone diagrams, 5 Why¡¦s), this could result in a CAR/8D being issued to either the supplier (SQE/supplier responsible) or internally to either engineering, engine assembly, or engine manufacturing depending on the failure modes/mechanisms.
„X Review and approval of all PPAP submissions and SREA submissions (Supplier Request for Engineering Authorization). Typical requests for SREA and subsequent PPAP submissions would entail; blue print or specification, supplier sourcing, process change/modification, adding or modifying equipment/tools post Job1 as part of cost reduction initiatives, extra-ordinary quality initiatives, design/robustness improvements, or increased capacity/throughput. Additional I was required to report and update various program teams as to timing and implementation status.
„X Developed and reported to director of Quality a monthly supplier matrix. This matrix included; corrective action status and reduction plan, PPAP/SREA timing status, things gone wrong, things gone right.
„X Developed, maintained, and reported bi-weekly, per Paynter/3 Panel/6 Panel format, with respect to ¡§Best in Class¡¨ initiatives to both internal and external customers. This report covered warranty, infant customer failures, and internal customer plant failures, with respect to containment and corrective action initiatives and subsequent effectiveness.
„X Annual PPAP review and approval per customer requirements
„X Conducted on site annual control plan/ PFMEA audits and reviews. This resulted in corrective actions plans, development, and improvements as part of supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Achievements
„X Per continuous improvement initiatives, Warranty reduction of injector failures from 10 R¡¦s per 1000 to 3 R¡¦s per 1000. Warranty reduction of pump failures from 7 R¡¦s per 1000 to less than 2 R¡¦s per 1000.
„X Led a team consisting of both customer and supplier representatives in best practice cleanliness initiatives. The resulting improvements in processes, validation, verification, and control techniques for all fuel system suppliers provided a warranty reduction of $7 CPU.
