Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam April 2011
Related Coursework: Principles of Reinforced Concrete, Principles of Steel Design, Indeterminate Structural Analysis, Structural Analysis I, Mechanics of Materials, Mechanics of Materials Laboratory, Engineering Materials Laboratory, Geotechnical Engineering I, Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Fundamentals of Pavement Design, Principles of Highway and Traffic Engineering, Geodetic and Photogrammetric Surveying, Advanced Surveying, Plane Surveying and Measurements, Computational Methods in Civil and Environmental Engineering I, Professional Issues and Concept Design in Civil Engineering
Senior Design Project: Design of Hydrologic Systems; I worked in a group to design a storm sewer network system for a local roadway, which accommodated the runoff from the road and surrounding area for a 10 year - 24 hour storm. I utilized methods acquired from my Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering courses to perform all calculations required by the project such as IDF curves, hydrographs, peak runoff rates, infiltration rates, time of concentration, intensity, and discharge rates. I subsequently created an Excel spreadsheet which incorporated all of my calculations for each pipe segment and inlet to determine the size and length of pipes, required hydraulic slopes, pipe travel time, friction loss, head loss, junction losses, hydraulic elevations, flow line elevations, and hydraulic clearances from the street elevations to ensure the design would function as anticipated. Due to the rest of my team's incompetence in this area, I took the initiative to complete this portion of the project myself. For the group presentation, I described how I obtained this information and its relevance to our design.
