A broad spectrum of experience with foreign cultures, international living, personal interests, education disciplines and styles help to provide a strong foundation for creative problem solving and interpersonal relations.
WORK EXPERIENCE
IDAHO NATIONAL LAB – Center for Space Nuclear Research, Idaho Falls, Idaho
Summer Research Fellow – Tungsten Encapsulation of Radioisotope Ceramics (June-August 2011)
• Collaborated in a group project to evaluate tungsten and alloys for radioisotope encapsulation
• Studied the kinetics of tungsten matrix composite sintering using SPS (spark plasma sintering)
• Fabricated ceramic microspheres for incorporation into ceramic-metallic composite (Cermet)
• Consulted and collaborated on materials selection for nuclear applications in other team projects
NASA – Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio
USRP Internship Program – Ceramic Forming Adhesives (January-April 2011)
• Performed temperature degradation studies of aerogel insulation for Inflatable Thermal Protection Systems (ITPS)
• Developed a pre-ceramic polymer based adhesive for outer ceramic fabric seams for ITPS
• Worked with industry to acquire and evaluate candidate components for the ITPS adhesive
• Designed and performed thermo mechanical test on ITPS ceramic cloth/adhesive system
SCHOTT — Home Tech Division (Baron), Dalton, Georgia
Engineering Intern (May-August 2010)
• Coordinated the procurement, development and implementation of new materials such as a high temperature anti-abrasive coating and a two-part fast-cure adhesive
• Optimized the dispensing of foam-in-place gaskets, redesigned a curing oven to improve quality and reduce defects, and ran capability studies for new products in a production setting
• Redesigned warehouse space and oversaw implementation for increased efficiency and capacity
NASA — Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio
USRP Internship Program – Advanced Composites (January-April 2010)
• Performed outlife studies and testing of polymer matrix pre-pregs to correlate material age with final composite properties for application in the Ares V rocket structure
• Incorporated nanoparticles into high temperature epoxy systems to improve durability and high temperature stability and assisted in thermo, mechanical and chemical testing
• Participated in lecture, demonstration and training events designed to educate interns about the technological and logistical efforts of the agency
