NUCLEAR ENGINEER
OBJECTIVE AND SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS: My objective is a junior level Nuclear Engineering position where I can apply my education and technical experience to develop solutions to problems, and create new products or procedures to take advantage of radioactive materials. I graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Nuclear Engineering where my plan of study included Nuclear Power Engineering, and Energy Materials and Radioactive Waste Management.
Technical Experience:
PUR-1 Reactor: Performed two experiments and senior design project with on-campus research reactor PUR-1, a unique pool-type light water reactor. Experiments included powering up/down the reactor and monitoring the reactor within NRC guidelines under direct supervision from reactor operators.
Low-Level Radioactive Sources: Extensive experience working with low-level radioactive sources, such as Cesium-137 and Cobalt-60.
Detection Equipment: Extensive experience working with detection equipment, including analog/digital oscilloscopes, Geiger-Muller tubes, germanium detectors, ionization detectors in lab settings, ascertaining age and activity of sources.
Senior Project: A hands-on capstone project to determine if material degradation problems of neutron absorption material Boral within spent fuel pool at Palisades Nuclear Generating Station in Covert Township, MI was related to radiation. Group received unused material samples from Palisades. One group was subjected to gamma radiation comparable for time periods up to 30 years of spent fuel pool via Cobalt-60 source. Another group was subjected to comparable neutron radiation up to 30 years through using PUR-1 reactor. Along with a control group, these samples were subjected to a 10 Curie AmBe neutron source to determine neutron absorptivity. Results proved inconclusive that radiation played a factor in degradation.
