Senior consulting services for robotics support of artillery testing, underwater vehicles and architecture development of e-commerce smartphone “apps” including backend services and secure transactions.
11/2010 to 11/2011 XPRT Solutions, a DSCI Company
Vice President of business development for an R&D centric division of DSCI. Developed strategic initiatives in the areas of performance enhancing protocols for military networks, test environments and applications for JTRS radios and waveforms and the application of cellular technology in secure tactical environments including infrastructure and mobile tactical Android and iPhone applications. Awarded and leading, execution of several STTR and SBIR contracts in support of these initiatives. Also supported technical aspects of S3 and TESS IDIQ contracts for JTRS and NetOps programs as well as work with the Korean military. Primary contributor to two papers in the October issue of IEEE Communications Magazine; “Network management Challenges for Joint Force Interoperability” and “Security and Network Operations Challenges with Cellular Infrastructure in the Tactical Theater”. Key contributor to ongoing CMMI Level III certification efforts.
3/2005 to 9/2010 Textron Defense Systems
Director of Autonomy and Communications for the ISR Advanced Solutions Center at Textron Systems in Wilmington, MA. The Autonomy and Communication organization supported diverse development initiatives in application of smartphone technology to military applications, tactical distributed geo-cultural and anthropological warfighter tools, ad-hoc low power networks, sensor systems for the Department of Defense, robotics, swarming vehicles, underwater vehicles, unmanned surface vehicles (USV), embedded software development, distributed software systems and modeling and simulation. These efforts included Internal Research and Development (IRAD), expertise in support of existing programs and business development. Recent programs included, Brigade Combat Team Modernization or BCTM (formerly FCS), Scorpion, Common Smart Submunitions (CSS), OSD Mentor Protégé and ONR Transparent Urban Structures. Role as Director included, team leadership, Program Manager, IPT lead for government programs, technical lead for programs and IRAD projects, software development lead, business development with ONR and DARPA, technology acquisition through partnering with small companies, universities and government labs, as well as individual contributor. Recent IRAD projects in include; distributed Frameworks, geolocation in GPS denied environments, integration of smartphones with current force communications networks, USV sensing and simulation, swarming robotics and battlefield decision aids.
8/2002 to 3/2005 General Dynamics C4 Systems
Director of modeling and simulation for WIN-T and General Dynamics C4-Systems. This included modeling and simulation in support of network performance, technology development, architecture validation and network reliability. Built a modeling team of 25+ people from scratch, and successfully out competed Lockheed Martin in obtaining 95% work share in combined WIN-T team. In addition to obtaining funding for modeling and simulation technology IRAD (Internal Research and Development), this group also supported four other IRAD programs with modeling expertise. Involved in three CRADA (Cooperative Research and Development Agreement) efforts with the Army at Ft Monmouth. The group was given incentives to publish papers in journals and at conferences, and has produced 10 publications in 2004 at conferences such as OpnetWork and MILCOM, on topics ranging from network planning to RF propagation. Led effort for development of the Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA) for the Army’s WIN-T program Phase 1.
6/2000 to 8/2002 Ericsson, Inc.
Chief Technologist and Department Director of the New Solutions and Services (NSS) Group of Ericsson on Burlington MA. NSS is a special projects, research and development organization, specializing in 3G networking solutions. The primary focus of the group is wireless security. Projects include, Astrolink satellite network design, GPRS and UMTS network and security architectures, security product development for 3G networks, vulnerability and penetration testing, security services for customer implementations, network testing and integration, low bandwidth ad-hoc networks, DARPA Wolfpack ad-hoc networking, as well as initiatives involving NSA and DARPA. Developed security research programs and security services for design and assessment. Also developed Opnet simulation tools and network penetration tools in support of security services. Presented keynote address as Technical Chairman for R&D at the OpnetWork 2002 conference.
