Electrical Engineer- Full Time
Jigabot LLC
January' 13- Present
● Designs analog and digital circuits for transmitters and receivers for infrared( IR) products using amplifiers, LEDs, transistors and microprocessors and for RF products using mixers, amplifiers, oscillators, PLLs and VCOs for battery operated portable consumer products to track the transmitter motion.
● Designs PCB Board schematics and layout using EAGLE, Design Spark, PADS and prototyping, troubleshooting and debugging boards in the lab and outdoor environment for optimized performance.
● Manufactures prototype PCB boards using lab techniques and assemble PCB boards in the lab by using re- flow ovens and soldering of surface mount components of size equal to or greater than 0402.
● Selects RF and IR components as well as other active and passive components based on cost and space restrains and performance optimization.
● Performs RF measurements, characterization, calibration and collects data to access the performance of product and its improvisation techniques.
● Develops test procedures, certification and performance optimizing techniques by operating products under FCC regulations.
● Develops the design from concept to product stage, discuss prototype designs with the engineering team, builds prototypes and tests them in lab as well as outdoor environment.
● Develops detection and tracking algorithms for motion tracking of the product using RADAR and Digital Signal Processing principles.
● Develops suitable architectures for RF receivers, transmitters and frequency synthesizers, as well as basic radio-frequency( RF) components like mixers, filters, power amplifiers, oscillators, voltage-controlled oscillators( VCOs) and Phased Lock Loops( PLLs).
● Designs Block Diagrams, Power Budgets and RF Link Budgets for prototype circuit designs of both transmitters and receiver circuits to estimate theoretical performance, signal-to-noise ratio( SNR) at the receiver and to determine if there is sufficient RF power.
● Design, simulate Patch Antenna and Patch Antenna Arrays for their characteristic behavior and performance at the desired frequency of operation using Sonnet, AWS.
● Build antennas by converting simulated designs into PCB prototype antennas with appropriate connectors to be used with the prototype circuits using Eagle CAD, Design Spark.
● Tests antennas in lab and outside environment by integrating them with the prototype circuits for both transmitter and receiver.
● Develops analog- to- digital conversion codes and signal processing codes for micro- controllers using C++, IDE for embedded processors and debugging using USB and SPI interface.
● Develops microprocessor codes for producing pulse-width modulation signals for controlling and smoothing motion of the motors by digitally processing data from the motor encoders and processed signals from the analog- to- digital convertors, in collaboration with the mechanical engineers.
● Works with vendors, IC manufacturers, IC application engineers and local sales representatives to discuss and solve IC performance issues to optimize RF wireless performance.
● Creates bill of materials, generates Gerber files and manufacturing files for PCB manufacturers, and assembly and test instructions for the assembly companies.
● Works with PCB manufacturers and assemblies to get quotes and delivery estimates, provides them with design specifications, manufacturing files, assembly and test instructions.
● Gained experience in doing mechanical assembly and adjusting software parameters in the process of preparing a prototype, which helped in creating a test procedure for the production.
