Senior Design: Microalgae Removal from Algal Wastewater Treatment October 2011-May 2012
• Researching current removal techniques of particles. Goal was to remove algae from a water source.
• Experimented to determine settling rate of algae (column and jar tests).
• Compiled a final report outlining findings, including effectiveness and costs.
Feasibility Study: Remediation of a Contaminated Site April-May 2012
• Given characteristics of a site, looked at possible remediation techniques including effectiveness and cost.
• Created a final report outlining our research and recommended remedies.
Environmental Field Session June 2011
Rock Dump Location in Colorado
• Collected rock and water samples from site. To examine the samples TCLP, SPLP, NAG, and USGS digest were used. We also learned basic Hydrology.
Water Treatment
• Looked at how to enhance Manganese removal from Clear Creek water by determining the optimal parameters in a mini pilot plant.
EPICS II: Water for Navajo Reservation Spring 2010
• Traveled to the Reservation. Investigated ways to provide clean water (re-drilling or water treatment process). Communicated with a community leader for needs of community.
• Compiled findings in a paper for future action.
EPICS I: Distillation Unit Fall 2008
• Used to distill essential oils in Zambia. Final model created using SolidWorks.
