CAREER HISTORY
METHANEX TRINIDAD LIMITED ■ 2005 – 2011
Process Plant Operator
At Methanex Trinidad Limited, I was hired as a Process Plant operator, where I gained hands on experience with process interpretation and manipulation. Upon completing my degree in Process Engineering I was given the responsibility of leading engineering troubleshooting projects, as well as process modification ventures. I was instrumental in the development and modifications of standard operating procedures. Monitoring of the plant efficiency and management of the logistics of plant chemical delivery were also part of my added duties.
Key performance indicators between 2005 and 2011:
• Prepare plant equipment for preventative and corrective maintenance
• Use of MAXIMO to request service on equipment and request purchase orders
• Troubleshooting abnormalities on the plant
• Safe start-up/shutdown of plant equipment including a gas fired boiler, top fired steam reformer, Autothermal Reformer, steam turbines, gas compressors, demineralization trains, desalination plant, distillation columns, heat exchangers, cooling tower and desulphurizers
• Maintain safe operation of gas fired burners by maintaining healthy flows to burner tips and favorable air to fuel ratios.
• Use of the DCS to control process to make on-spec product
• Perform steam balances to control steam header pressures and boiler demand
• Perform risk assessments on both short term and long term projects
• Co-ordinate, monitor and control turnaround activities in assigned areas
• Plan and execute projects to modify systems in order to meet insurance and environmental audit criteria
• Co-ordinated Boiler and Water Treatment chemistry
• Mentor and train junior operators and engineers
Overall accomplishment: Played a significant role in solving process problems related to the manufacture of off-spec product and plant inefficiencies, and developed and modified standard operating procedures to prevent reoccurrences. These procedures are currently being used by the company’s other global sites. I also planned the commissioning of a modification of the plant to include a safety system in which a process line can be vented to the flare system. These accomplishments displayed by my appreciation and knowledge of process operations and process safety
BP Trinidad & Tobago ■ 2002 – 2005
Control Room Operator
At British Petroleum of Trinidad & Tobago (BPTT) I started as a trainee operator and quickly transitioned into a Bona fide Control Room Operator responsible for process operations, and planning, coordinating and permitting of maintenance jobs.
Key performance indicators between 2002 and 2005:
• Process flow manipulation
• Use of DCS panel to monitor and control process conditions
• Preparation and distribution of work permits
• Sampling and preparation of storage tanks for loading
• Monitoring and skimming of Desander Ponds
• Chemical injection and Corrosion Monitoring
• Job Hazard Analyses
• Prepare plant equipment for preventative and corrective maintenance
• Participate in preparation of the plant for internal and international site audit
