A self-motivated and self-starting Systems Engineer Leader with vast experience in software and hardware design and
development, systems integration, system definition, requirement definition, system testing, and system verification
and validation. Objective is to obtain a Chief/Principle Systems Engineer position that utilizes my technical and
leadership skills.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2010 – Present LZT Contractor to L-3 Stratis Houston, TX
Principle Systems Engineer
o Working with Electrical Power Consuming Equipment Team on the International Space Station
o Supporting the testing and delivery of DC/AC Power Inverters to the station to allow the program the
ability to provide more COTS options for crew equipment.
o Working with Pyrotechnics International Space Station team to provide a systems and electrical engineering
oversight for projects.
o Review of pyrotechnic circuits developed by COTS vendors on various programs (e.g. Russian, CCDev
and COTS) for design and safety while in close proximity to ISS.
o Provided Insight / Oversight for Vehicle Systems Management (VSM) Systems Engineering and Integration
(SE&I) Team for Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR), Caution and Warning, Operational and
Developmental Flight Instrumentation.
o Working with Mission Operations Directorate to develop a process for defining space vehicle level faults,
fault recovery software actions and flight rules.
o Co-Chair for the Electrical Systems Review Panel.
o Responsible for reviewing impacts to data and power channelization as well as conducting technical
reviews of Electrical Power System requests for the Engineering Review Board.
o Working with NASA and Orion Prime Contractors to define and baseline the developmental and
operational flight instrumentation.
2006 – 2010 Honeywell International Houston, TX
Lead Systems Engineer
o Lead the Orion Model and Simulation Team through the development of software simulations and models
to be used in the CEV Avionics Integration Lab (CAIL), the Verification Test Benches (VTB) and other
flight software and hardware verification/validation facilities. Responsibilities includes the following:
o Developed and maintained requirements for Model and Simulation Team.
o Developed requirements analysis artifacts for the Power Data Unit (PDU) controller, Analog / Digital
Input / Output (ADIO) card, Solenoid Driver Output (SDO) card and Pyrotechnic Event Controller
(PEC) card.
o Worked with NASA Customer in developing cost effective solutions for the PDU functionality and
overall software architecture. This included Trade Studies and systems engineering analysis of customer
requirements.
o Developed and maintained team-level planning, tracking, analysis and improvement mechanisms for
Earned Value Management. Helped established individual commitments to the team and the program
schedules at the same time defining a defensible detailed team plan.
o Lead the Orion Program Systems Management Team in defining the overall system architecture and vehicle
system diagnostic models to provide improved situational awareness for the Orion Crew and NASA Mission
Systems by providing an integrated vehicle system fault management and status summary, system-level fault
impact and root cause assessment, caution and warning message generation with associated crew procedures,
and command scripting capabilities for automated fault response, recovery and reconfiguration.
Responsibilities includes the following:
o Worked with NASA Customer in developing an aggressive schedule and cost effective solution for the
Systems Management system functionality and software architecture. This included multiple Trade
Studies, and aggressive systems engineering analysis of customer requirements and software
requirements specifications.
o Created Systems Management working group that had wide Orion stakeholder involvement within
Lockheed-Martin and NASA communities. This working group’s mission and focus was to address the
implementation of Orion vehicle-level fault management. Lead this working group which resulted in
providing negotiated fault detection, isolation and recovery (FDIR) interfaces with Orion subsystems
prior to PDR, negotiated an accepted Orion vehicle and subsystem FDIR philosophy for application to
developing functional fault analysis and FDIR integration tool work.
o Defined and development of systems engineering operational, functional and architectural analyses as
well as software OOA/OOD related artifacts using SysML/UML, which resulted in the development
of multiple customer data deliverables including requirement specification and concept of operations.
o Defined the system and interfaces for Systems Management, including Caution and Warning, Vehicle
Health Determination and Command Sequence Automation.
2003 – 2006 United Space Alliance Houston, TX
2001 – 2002
Systems Engineering Technical Lead
o The Modular Memory Unit – Retrofit for the Vehicle Health Monitoring System Project on the Space
Shuttle Upgrades Program upgraded the Modular Auxiliary Data System reel-to-reel tape recorder with an
existing Space Shuttle solid-state data recorder that was upgraded for the expanded data acquisition.
o Work with NASA Customer in developing an aggressive schedule and cost effective solution for the
VHMS system architecture. This included multiple Trade Studies, Vendor ROM costs, formal Request
for Proposal (RFP) for products and services, and re-scope efforts to provide the most cost and
schedule effective products to NASA.
o Responsible for the Development Requirements Specifications for the MMU-R and related Support
Equipment, and the Development Requirements Specification for the Ku-Band Payload Maximum
Switch.
o Responsible for developing and maintaining the VHMS System Interface Control Document. This
effort includes both the MMU-R Integrated Product Team (IPT) interfaces and the DMADS IPT
interfaces. Worked with NASA customer and other USA elements in defining and validating interface
requirements from piece part needs to system needs to end user requirements.
o Defined trade space, requirements, and architectural solutions for two trade studies, Back-up Avionics
Crash Recorder and Vehicle Health Management, as possible expansions of the overall VHMS trade
space and system architecture. This activity included Vendor Selection and review of Vendor proposed
solutions and proposing the most effective solution to NASA.
o Operations IPT Technical Lead for the Auxiliary Instrumentation System (AIS) in the Space Shuttle
Upgrades Program
o Integral member of the team brought in to help reorganize the AIS project that was 6 months behind
