Hired to develop reactive separation process as part of company’s $1B expansion and renovation project to flagship rare earth mine in Southern California; this included process piloting, process optimization, and the startup, commissioning and operation of plant scale chemical process. Challenged to increase product yield 20% while obtaining >99% product purity. Empowered with full accountability for meeting product spec, defining key process parameters, training plant operators, and developing reactor control logic. Key Accomplishments:
• Applied chemical engineering know-how to increase product yield from rare earth separation process by 20%.
• Drafted and executed sampling plan, and conducted data analysis needed to construct complete material balance around multiple unit chemical process, including; pressure reactor, candle filter, filter press, and hazardous gas scrubber.
• Developed reaction rate model validating continuous basis for downstream dissolution process.
