CAN Open control bus functional analysis, system and software integration. Electrical Engineering Contractor (Manpower Technical), Bell and Howell Mail Processing Systems, Research Triangle Park, NC, 04/96 – 08/00

Responsibilities: Designed and developed digital signal control circuitry, single, and three phase power distribution systems for the Automated Mail Processing Systems. Included the BH4000 Base Inserter, A, B and F Zutu AIMs, AUI, DCS, PCs, Bar Code and Vision Systems, CAN and Interbus S control bus, user interfacing including X-terminals and VGA monitors, PIC micro-controllers, optical motion sensing, DC motors and controllers, I/O, Power and control. Types of items designed and or developed included:

• Solid State Brake for 1/8-3/4 HP DC Motors employing safety agency compliant design techniques including redundant IGBTs, opto-isolated drive circuits and signal conversion.
• ISMC2 System Interface using InterbusS control node for mail system networking via Linux and Windows NT.
• Interface circuitry to convert, and integrate different machine control logic platforms for use as computer-controlled real time I/O. Logic circuitry technologies included relay, diode, TTL, CMOS, and embedded controllers.
• Interface circuitry for system integration of competitor Mail Processing Systems with the BH Site Manager Product.
• Interface circuitry for system integration of allied Mail Processing Systems including the Autotray to BH6000 MDS, and Stralfors Roll Unwind to the AIM Cutter Module.
• 208/240 VAC 90 Amp 3 Phase, and SELV DC power distribution system for the BH 4000 Mail processing modular family of products.
• System integrated the Base Inserter control signals, Modular Delivery control signals, and DCS interface signals for material motion control.
• Developed the Safety Interlock and Emergency Stop Systems interfacing the Base Inserter, the Aim Frame and AIM Modules for the BH 4000.
