Research: Development of Durable Longitudinal Connections for Adjacent Member Bridges
• Field Work: Performed live load tests on adjacent member bridges using Bridge Diagnostic
Inc.’s wireless structural testing system and WinSTS data acquisition software.
Instrumentation was used to measure beam strain and displacement, relative beam
displacement, and beam rotations at supports induced by applied truck loads.
• Lab Work: Laboratory tests performed on precast bridge sub-assemblages to investigate
connection behavior under static and repeated loads. Seven different connection details tested.
Recommendations on the most favorable connection will be made to VDOT in order to update
and improve their standards on adjacent member bridges.
Experience: HNTB, Bridge Design Intern, Harrisburg, PA, Summer 2012
