EXPERIENCE:
April 2009 – Present AREVA Federal Services; AREVA, Inc – Charlotte, NC
Project Engineer II
# RAMI / FMECA lead for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project to evaluate the plant cooling system design and predict its operational availability / reliability. Develops design / operating options to improve system availability. Develops schedule, budget and provides monthly variance analysis to support project management.
# Performs Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) for the designs of the ITER Tokamak Cooling Water System, during the various design stages. Performs and evaluates Reliability and Availability by creating Reliability Block Diagram models in support of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Inspectability (RAMI).
# Provide project management for engineering reliability projects ensuring work is completed within budget, schedule and technical requirements to develop & provide client deliverables. Develop budgets and schedules for various projects to ensure coordination with other engineering disciplines.
# Led the Equipment Reliability and Maintenance Rule evaluation meetings to develop Equipment Classification for new nuclear plant design according to INPO AP-913. Systems and processes are reviewed during design to ensure that equipment and components critical to a plants safe, reliable and power generating capability are appropriately identified.
# Performed a Root Cause Analysis to investigate management failure, implemented corrective actions to permanently address identified shortfalls.
Jun 2007- April 2009 Performance Fibers (formerly INVISTA) - Salisbury, NC Manufacturing Site
Manager - Site Maintenance
Manage daily plant maintenance operations & coordination with multiple Production lines & Utilities systems.
# Optimized planning & scheduling to fully utilize workforce of 68 mechanics by prioritizing work requests, kitting repair material, creating repair task lists and generating equipment BOM's for mechanic / planner use.
# Safety champion by performing LOTO audits, shop audits, evaluating craft work execution and ensuring mechanic concerns are reviewed and addressed.
# Ensures the plant Management of Change program is healthy and active.
# Implemented policies and work processes to reduce Maintenance spending to 1.5% of RAV.
# Directed on-site contract workforce of 50 personnel to provide construction activities and maintenance support.
# Directed maintenance resources to critical Production priorities with the highest value to the site.
# Write / review / approve maintenance, operational and safety procedures.
# Optimized supply station parts inventory while also managing capital spares and shipping / receiving function.
# Evaluated Safety / Environmental risks and develop / implement plans to mitigate those risks.
# Performed site safety reviews and audits as a member of the plant safety committee.
# Lead Reliability Engineers to eliminate high cost and repetitive failures across the site
# Reduced parts inventory by evaluating equipment operation, parts usage, minimum order points & shipping duration.
Jan 2003 – May 2007 INVISTA (Formerly KoSa) Salisbury, NC Manufacturing Site
Reliability Process Supervisor
Improve Maintenance Planning & Equipment Reliability by identifying & correcting gaps between current maintenance practice and industry best practices.
# Lead Reliability Engineers to eliminate high cost and repetitive failures across the site
# Supervise Maintenance Planner / Schedulers to plan Work Repair Scope, order material for kitting, update equipment Bill of Materials (BOM’s), schedule work when material is available, manage Work Order Backlog and lead Maintenance Scheduling Meetings.
# Provide leadership in day-to-day operation of the plant maintenance work force.
# Implemented & utilize Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) methodology (Cause Map) to document and solve Reliability or Process problems.
# Identified / led efforts to improve Maintenance scheduling compliance from 80% in 2005 to 89.6% in 2007.
# Led outage scheduling / shutdown meetings to develop scope, assign responsibilities and update status.
# Led and championed the site Management of Change (MOC) process.
# Participate in RCM analysis reviews for critical plant systems
# Responsible for managing supply stations and shipping / receiving functions.
# Project & Production Engineer For Reverse Osmosis DI Water Installation resulting in savings of $120,000/yr
# Identified and implemented two Winnsboro, SC plant projects in 2006 resulting in savings of $100,000/yr.
July 1999 - Jan 2003 KoSa (Salisbury, NC Manufacturing Site)
Production & Reliability Engineer
Responsible for Glycol Recovery distillation / evaporation process, Teraphytallic Acid Storage / Transfer, Dioxane / Acetaldehyde Treatment and Additive / Finish make-up systems.
# Improved Glycol Recovery process yield from 98% from 95% (net savings of $400,000 – yield increase reduced raw material purchases).
# Successful implementation of TA Automation project reducing operation from 6 full time to 2 part-time personnel, annual savings of over $350,000 and reduction in downtime due to operator error. Responsible for developing process control logic, operator interfaces and managed to continue uninterrupted process operation while the system was transitioned to PLC operation over several months.
# Responsible for the successful implementation of the ATG Automation project (via PLC), modifying two plant additive systems resulting in annual cost savings of $350,000.
