Materials and Process (M&P) Engineer 07/2009 – present
• Provide manufacturing support for military and commercial helicopter blades. This includes supporting technical issues that arise in production, investigating an issue and improving production processes.
• Investigate material related issues that occur in production and provide a root cause analysis to prevent the issue from reoccurring. Investigation includes testing composite materials, pre-impregnated material, film and paste adhesives, fiberglass and carbon fiber, working with material suppliers and drafting Material Engineering Reports (MER) to report results.
o Submitted a patent for a mechanical seal that could potentially eliminate the need for a problematic caulking in blade manufacturing. This seal would save Operations approximately 6 hours of labor per blade and eliminate a labor-intensive cleaning operation.
o Managed the outsourcing of blade de-ice element manufacture from Stratford, CT to Tallassee, AL. This project required the knowledge of material properties and processing techniques as well as mentoring and training the new operations staff.
• Perform destructive teardown experiments to inspect parts made by new suppliers and test alternate materials for qualification.
• Supervised a summer intern, including day-today activities, performance reviews and mentoring
• Use ACE tools, such as relentless root cause analysis and Process Certification in daily activities and have an attitude of continuous improvement
