METALLURGICAL ENGINEER AND GLOBAL PAR LEAD
– Micro Motion (measurement devices)

* Responsible for conceptualization and construction of new Quality
Center (Metallurgy, Microscopy and Failure Analysis Laboratories) in
new production facility in Nanjing, China. Managed project through all
phases from initial planning, budgeting/capital/justifications, design,
construction and purchasing to completion and subsequent training of
lab personnel.
o Created initial layout for Repair Center and all phases of Quality
Lab construction
o Coordinated with plant and other managers and all levels of personnel
in both organizations to assemble the budget, develop equipment
lists, and plan and discuss all details
o Created organizational chart from scratch for the new Quality and
Repair Center. Wrote and provided detailed job descriptions to the
new Quality Manager for each position
o Interviewed candidates for and approved key positions of new hires
o Held ongoing project status calls and created numerous presentations
o Recommended and monitored purchase of $360,000+ worth of specialized
equipment
o Traveled to Nanjing on several occasions to discuss and negotiate
potential purchases with local vendors and to meet new contacts
o Trained personnel including Metallurgy Engineer in Nanjing on several
occasions for periods up to one month
* Responsible for conceptualization and construction of new Metallurgy,
Microscopy, Failure Analysis, and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
Laboratory at company headquarters in Boulder, CO. Solely responsible
for project through all phases. Wrote Appropriation Request and
Justification for $86,823.
* Team leader of failure analysis and Product Analysis Report (PAR)
processes. These customer-facing “formal reports” are professional
documents that are written with possible legal ramifications in mind.
o Manage PAR process by responding to inquiries about in-process PARs
from all world areas on a daily basis. Supervise analysis by group
members based on skills/capabilities and changing priorities and
customer demands.
o Perform Metallurgical and mechanical failure analysis, and, for
several years, I have been the primary reviewer for content and
formatting of all PARs before they are released
o Created the format for PARs that became the global standard for
failure analysis reports
o Team leader of numerous process improvement teams
o Conceptualized an ideal PAR process, taking into consideration the
numerous issues and departments and world areas the process touches.
The new PAR process will likely be on SharePoint and should reduce
the backlog of requests to acceptable levels in part by controlling
the number of PAR requests that are approved at the front end of the
process.
* Work in an ISO 9001:2008 environment (Micro Motion is an Emerson Process
Management, Process Systems and Solutions company)
* Attended 4 full days plus 3 hours (35 hours total) of Project
Management Training. This increased my project management knowledge,
and also gave me the pre-requisite classroom training (contact hours)
for PMP Certification or Associate Certification by PMI.
* Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy
(EDS)
o Use SEM and EDS to perform failure analysis on metallic or sputter-
coated non-conductive parts
o Troubleshoot malfunctioning SEM and arrange service/repair when
needed
o Arranged and attended a week-long, on-site SEM training program for
engineers through ASM
* Provide corrosion/compatibility recommendations for customers regarding
materials including Tefzel coated 316L tubes, Alloy 22 (Hastelloy C-
22), 316L and 304L stainless steels, titanium, Monel 400, tantalum, Ni-
Span-C Alloy 902, and zirconium as used with an essentially unlimited
potential of process fluids a customer may be running in their
application
* Received numerous “Think Customer Performance Awards” by customer
representatives and others within the company for providing excellent
customer service. In one instance, I was given credit for a $40,000
sale that went through due to my efforts and involvement. In another,
I was recognized for my “… commitment to customer safety and product
excellence (that) drove the early release of a (customer name) PAR to
allow further investigation of a dangerous isobutene meter failure”.

* Was designated as Engineer responsible for overseeing operations in
Q.C. Lab. Set up new Metallurgy Lab with sectioning, mounting,
polishing, and metallographic capabilities.
* Implemented new testing programs and trained staff in use of United
tensile tester, microhardness tester, various measuring devices, and
RAM Optical measurement/viewing system
* Reduced production time, resources and cost dramatically on sink
process for 434 material. Among other things, removed need for multiple
anneals from 4 down to only 1 for every part number.
