Component Failure Analysis Lab Work and Project: Bicycle Hanger Component
Critical Steps Involved: Background information, Non-Destructive examination, Finite Element Analysis, Microstructure Analysis, Hardness Testing, and SEM Analysis.
- Analyzed and tested a mountain bicycle’s hanger to identify the root cause of the component’s failure, and assess the appropriateness of the materials selected to manufacture the hanger.
- Conducted theoretical and empirical tests on the sample in order to determine the cause of failure with the minimal impact received.
- Identified materials and processes that could have improved the hanger’s performance and durability.
Participated in projects involving the following Materials Testing Equipment and Metal Procedures:
• SEM
• Optical Microscope
• Tensile Testing
• Hardness
• Annealing
• Quenching
• Tempering
• Keyence Microscope
• Metallography
• Cold Work
