Accomplishments

Worked overtime and weekends at URS to ensure systems design completion by contract turnover deadline. Often worked overtime without overtime pay.

Developed a 5-yr plan at Southern California Edison to promote adoption of electro-technologies by local industrial businesses. Managed this program, resulting in a $50 M kWh load growth over a 5-yr period. Received special awards from SCE, two years in a row for this work.

Managed EPC contracts for a variety of projects with Sempra Energy Solutions. Was the only project manager that could effectively work with the business development group, the engineering group and the construction group to get projects completed on time and under budget. This resulted in a 10 percent increase in new project orders.

Appointed assistant to the Laboratory Director at Argonne National Lab, as the Women In Science & Technology Program Manager. Worked with Martha Krebs, Undersecretary of Energy to promote professional development and advancement of women at the national laboratories, and to educated middle and high school girls in the opportunities available in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers.

Experience
Mechanical Engineer V
2012 to 2013
URS Corp.- Fort Mill, SC

Worked with designers to develop P&IDs for the floor and equipment drain systems. Developed system descriptions for these systems. Generated engineering change packages for Duke Energy's Progress Energy legacy nuclear power plants. Performed design engineering of mechanical systems for Advanced Energy America, a joint venture between URS and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Designs were part of the development of a new nuclear power plant design. Originally scheduled to run for four years, with annual funding renewal, URS lost this contract to GE in 2013.

Energy Engineer Consultant
2008 to 2012
Self- Pasadena, CA

Assessed office buildings for low cost/no cost energy efficiency upgrades to lower electricity bills. Recommended upgrades, calculating payback periods for these changes. Researched and recommended state/local rebate opportunities where applicable. Implemented upgrades resulted in energy cost savings of 15 percent within 3 years.

Energy Manager
2007 to 2008
Parsons - Pasadena, CA

Worked within USPS support group to develop an energy management program, train employees, and implement energy usage assessments for large USPS distribution facilities. Assessments used by the Projects Group to develop proposals for energy upgrades to facilities. Assessments alone increased revenue by 10 percent. Facilities budgets ranged from $800,000 to $3,000,000. Cost of energy audits for such large facilities proved to be more expensive than management had anticipated, due to their limited knowledge of this field. Their expectation of making money off of the audits alone, could not be achieved. This project was terminated within a year due to consolidation and retirement of numerous large USPS facilities.

Senior Project Manager
2006 to 2007
Johnson Controls, Inc. - Cypress, CA

Managed multiple controls installation projects simultaneously, coordinating engineers, installers, and electrical subcontractors. Most projects were hospitals, new build and retrofit, with some public buildings as well. Installations improved energy use, reduced costs by 10 to 20 percent per project. Projects included design/build/retrofit facilities. Budgets ranged from $500,000 to $2,000,000. I resigned from this position because the shortage of installers made it impossible to provide timely installation and good customer service.

Construction Project Manager
2005 to 2006
Pacifica Services - Pasadena, CA

Managed project construction for Los Angeles Unified School District and Pasadena Unified School District. Worked with contractors to install fiber optic and computer networks, lighting, PA systems, HVAC upgrades, built libraries and office facilities. Worked with inspectors to assure that modifications met codes and regulatory requirements. Oversaw asbestos removal/remediation, and managed subcontractors. Improvements enhanced learning environments. Increased energy efficiency of schools by 15 to 20 percent. Individual project budgets ranged from $300,000 to $2,000,000. Pacifica lost their contracts due to a forced reorganization of school districts from eleven to eight.

Independent Contractor
2002 to 2005
Various Firms - Pasadena, CA

Performed project management duties for engineering firms and government entities including TMAD Engineering, Environ, LA County, CMS Viron Energy Services, and Edison International. Improved energy efficiency by 15 to 20 percent, increased productivity, and enhanced facility design. Project budgets ranged from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000.

Project Manager
2001 to 2002
Sempra Energy Solutions - Los Angeles, CA

Managed diverse EPC projects including retrofits for VA Hospitals, LA County government buildings, local colleges, a Native American technical school, industrial facilities, and energy generation facilities. Constructed and installed a combined cycle gas turbine plant, and commissioned it. Activities increased energy efficiency by 10 to 15 percent, brought facilities up to code standards, and increased company revenues by 15 to 20 percent over a one year period. Budgets ranged from $13,000,000 to $50,000,000. Acquisition of a design firm in Houston, TX forced a layoff of several recently hired employees. Sempra Energy Solutions has since been dissolved.
