Areas of Expertise
Geotechnical Site Characterization – Subsurface exploration using SPT sampling/rock coring, air track probe, CPT, and geophysical methods (electrical resistivity, GPR); laboratory testing per ASTM of soil and rock including: soil classification, shear strength testing, consolidation testing
Deep Foundations – Analysis, load testing, construction and inspection of driven piles, micropiles, augercast piles, and drilled shafts
Karst Terrain – Foundation engineering in karst: fracture trace analysis, 2D/3D modeling of subsurface conditions, ground improvement/stabilization, and risk mitigation measures
Construction material testing and IBC Special Inspections – Earthwork testing, concrete sampling and testing, asphalt and concrete pavement testing, reinforced/post-tensioned/precast concrete inspections, masonry testing and inspections, shotcrete
Forensic Evaluations – Engineering evaluation and remediation recommendations for pavements, slabs, and foundation/building distress
Education
B.S., Civil Engineering, Mississippi State University, 2000
Professional Licensure / Memberships
Licensed Professional Engineer in Alabama (No. 30449)
Deep Foundations Institute (DFI)
Recent Major Projects
Japanese Automotive Manufacturer – Lincoln, AL (2010 – 2014) Geotechnical consultant for foundation design, load testing, and ground improvements in karst terrain for multiple plant expansions with construction value of $250M. Multiple exploration methods were used to model complex karst conditions and assess subsidence risk.
New Student Residences - University of Alabama at Birmingham – Birmingham, AL (2013) Geotechnical consultant on an 8-story building at UAB campus. Required complex settlement modeling of shallow foundations and consolidation testing in karst terrain.
