Experience
Research Associate | Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute (AORI) | Alexandria, VA Feb 2015 – Present
Since 1972 Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute’s studies have led to new insights concerning orthopaedic surgical practices, patient outcomes, and orthopaedic implants. AORI’s studies continue to shed light on the effectiveness of both hip and knee replacements.
• Assisted with the maintenance of AORI’s laboratory and provided support for research studies

Staff Assistant | The Potomac Advocates (PRASAM, LLC.) | Washington, DC
Aug 2014 – Sep 2014, Jan 2015
The mission of the Potomac Advocates is to provide world class representational, business development, consulting, and research solutions to clients. As a staff assistant I was tasked with federal policy research on congressional activities.
• Reported to the Director of Research to assist partners with government relations support and budget documentation analysis
• Researched and prepared weekly reports concerning relevant congressional actions and activities
• Condensed research information into presentations and spreadsheets to be used in meetings with clients

Staff Assistant | United States Technology Leadership Council (USTLC) | Arlington, VA

USTLC provides members with opportunities to exchange ideas in science and technology with representatives of industry, government officials, and with university researchers.
• Assisted the Director of Operations with catering and management of open-forum presentations geared towards increased interaction and improved dialogue among the private sector and government R&D programs

Laboratory Assistant | Center for Intelligent Materials Systems and Structures (CIMSS) | Blacksburg, VA
Jul 2012 – Feb 2013
Contributed to the Virginia Tech CIMSS wind turbine research effort by interpreting and fabricating various prototypes, and by applying mechanical engineering theories and principles to test and improve designs.
• Under a federal research grant, worked with mechanical engineering professors and graduate students to produce small-scale modular wind turbines capable of charging small electronic devices and powering remote sensor networks
• Designed, framed and sculpted sand molds of 3D-printed turbine components which were used to manufacture aluminum castings of the components for modeling and testing
• Prepared and assembled aluminum castings using various machining tools to remove defects, soldered power conversion circuit boards and implanted them into nacelles
• Conducted mechanical and electrical testing of different turbine prototype iterations in a 0.7 m subsonic open jet wind tunnel at various wind speeds to collect efficiency data
• Reported power conversion efficiency to graduate students
• Maintained general lab upkeep and updated MSDS, kept a record of chemicals
