EXPERIENCES:

Research Assistant
Thomas T.C. Hsu Structural Research Laboratory, Dept. of Civil Engineering, UH January 2012 – Present

o Nonlinear behavior of RC and SC Nuclear Containment (funded by Taiwanese Gov.)

• Studied constitutive stress-strain relationship of reinforced concrete (RC) and steel-plate concrete (SC) in order to implement new three-dimensional material of reinforced concrete and steel-plate concrete in finite element program OpenSees.

• Studied finite element formula of curved thin and thick shell elements in order to implement new curved shell elements in finite element program OpenSees.

• Developed a program based on finite element framework OpenSees for prediction of nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete and steel-plate concrete shell structures subjected to reversal cyclic loading.

o Nonlinear behavior of Prestressed Concrete Thin Slab Beam (funded by TxDOT)

• Cooperated with technicians and workers at Flexicore company to cast fourteen prestressed concrete thin slab beams on construction sites.

• Organized test schedule, communicated with technicians, supervised test specimens preparation, sensors installation, data acquisition and data post-processing using MATLAB and EXCEL.

• Performed finite element analysis to predict structural behavior of prestressed concrete thin slab beams using nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS.

• Performed finite element analysis to predict cracking patterns of column-pile foundation connection in high-way bridges using nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS.

Teaching Assistant
Dept. of Civil Engineering, UH January 2012 – Present

• Assisted the instructor in various undergraduate and graduate level structural engineering courses such as Engineering Materials, Matrix Analysis of Structures by grading assignments, holding office hours, preparing assignments, proctoring exams, and teaching occasional theory and tutorial classes.

• Conducted more than 2 hours of undergraduate level classes per week on teaching laboratory work of engineering materials, teaching students how to perform laboratory tests to determine properties of steel, aluminum and concrete, how to do mixing and perform quality control work of concrete.

Research Assistant
National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), Taipei, Taiwan September 2010 – August 2011

• Proposed a calculation formula to predict the ultimate shear and bending capacity of very short columns and shear walls in low-rise reinforced concrete structures.

• Developed a program to interact with SAP2000 to define plastic hinges for beams, columns, and shear walls of old low-rise reinforced concrete structures to assess se...
