BHPB NAVAJO COAL CO - NAVAJO MINE, Fruitland, NM May 2010 – Present
Superintendent Drill & Blast (November 2013-Present)
Accountable for managing a diverse team including union personnel responsible for executing all drill and blast functions and all construction activities in a high pressure, process driven environment with an unrivaled mining sequence.
On-site content matter expert for all regulatory compliance of blasting practices, including tribal agencies, the Office of Surface Mining, BATF, MSHA, and the Department of Homeland Security.
Introduced innovative data collection software and processes to drill and blast reporting procedures and improved drilling and blasting quality and efficiency through the application of six sigma techniques.
Executed safety leadership program with hourly workforce to increase safety awareness and engagement, resulting in no lost time injuries during tenure.
Executed redesign of rotary overburden drills to eliminate risk of changing out drill steels of different diameters. Process transitioned from manual handling to machine handling of both diameters.
Production Engineer - Drilling and Blasting (December 2011-October 2013)
Coordinated a high impact, high pressure process for multiple customer groups with competing expectations and priorities. Accuracy and precision is vital as is intense process discipline to successfully manage constantly evolving work areas.
Accountable for designing and directing drilling and blasting plans that satisfy monthly and year-end targets. CY12 required over 1.6 million feet of production drilling and the blasting of 22 million BCY of material.
Coordinated between the engineering, production, maintenance, and environmental departments to produce plans that were efficient and effective across all the functions.
Responsible for understanding and maintaining compliance with all local, federal, and state regulations through the design and process.
Optimized drilling and blasting designs and processes for safety, compliance, performance, and cost through documentation and data analysis. Utilized drill rate of penetration data to map areas of changing material density. The varying strata conditions were incorporated into blast design and drill bit selection to ensure optimal performance.
Coordinated with third party contractors and suppliers to ensure the mine has the blasting products necessary for uninterrupted and efficient production of the blast crews.
Backfills duties of Blasting Foreman on regular basis. Proven experience leading hourly drill and blast crew of 16 members to achieve production and safety goals on a daily basis.
