Operated pilot and lab-scale anaerobic digesters at a D.O.E-funded, state-of-the-art algae biofuel pilot plant
Trained and managed teams of 12-15 students, most of which had little to no research experience
Increased system efficiency, decreasing daily biofuel harvesting time from 2.5 hours to 45 minutes
Designed and built custom gas flow meters, biomass thickening tanks, and automated pumping systems
Collected and synthesized data measuring pH, solids content, total and soluble nutrients, carbon:nitrogen ratio, biogas composition, and biogas production to compare efficiency of different system operating modes
