Senior Systems Engineer
Profile
Senior Systems Engineer with 35 years experience in the commercial and defense aerospace industry. Extensive experience in requirements-based engineering (RBE) and system and component level validation/verification. Over a decade of experience using DOORS to create formal requirements hierarchies. Systems Analyst with broad experience in algorithm design and the modeling of physical processes related to system performance.
RECENT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Honeywell Aerospace FCU, Tempe, AZ.
Senior Systems Engineer (Contract), June 2011-December 2014
Performed DOORS requirements validation for the Electronic Heating System (EHS) of the Airbus A350 Extended Mechanical Systems Perimeter (EMSP).
Performed DOORS requirements verification of the Safety and Reliability requirements for the Airbus A350 Extended Mechanical Systems Perimeter (EMSP).
Auditor for the A350 Failure Reporting, Analysis, Correction and Action System (FRACAS) against Key Performance Indicators (KPI) provided by each EMSP work package. Provided weekly updates to Airbus, EMSP, and work package management on the completeness, correctness, and traceability of these databases.
Auditor for the EMSP system-level portion of the A350 Engineering Coordination Memorandum (ECM) database. Monitored Honeywell response compliance against Airbus scheduling and completeness constraints. Provided regular reporting to designated Honeywell Responders regarding compliance violations.
General Dynamics C4 Systems, Scottsdale, AZ.
Senior Systems Engineer (Contract), 2010-February 2011
Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS): Provided requirements analysis/decomposition in support of requirements-based engineering activities for the JTR-M maritime software defined radio. Requirements analysis conducted in DOORS and RequisitePro. Special emphasis on establishing consistency between classified and unclassified requirements databases related to Information Assurance.
Coordinated identification, submission and resolution of System Problem Reports required by the Prime Contractor. Coordinated review meetings involving multiple subsystem partners for the purpose of resolving inconsistencies between system requirements and subsystem design.
Conducted trade studies comparing alternative hardware configurations corresponding to specialized installation environments. Created CONOPS for these alternative configurations. Performed “platform adaptation analysis” to identify and characterize waveform configurations supported by current and enhanced radio architectures. Supported integration test planning activities.
Orbital Sciences Corporation, Chandler AZ.
Principal Systems Engineer, 2007-2010
Provided requirements-based engineering and verification support for a range of launch systems.
For the Flexible Target Family of modularized target rockets, working in DOORS created subsystem specifications for all six vehicle assemblies needed to assemble the complete set of variants comprising the 46” family of target vehicles. Allocated system requirements between the 52” and 46” families to establish commonalities and to identify unique development tasks specific to each subprogram. Further decomposed requirements to identify specific responsibilities of development partners working on each subsystem. Provided DOORS training for junior team members.
For the Kinetic Energy Interceptor (KEI), created the Range Safety Systems Report for Vandenberg launch of KEI. Report documented all vehicle ordnance and ground-support systems and software utilized to ensure launch safety.
For the Ground-Based Missile Defense (GMD), generated the GMD vehicle Interface Requirements Specification from Prime Contractor system-level documentation. Responsible for on going updates to the Booster Stack Subsystem Specification, with special emphasis on MIL-STD-1901 design requirements. Special emphasis on environmental factors affecting system performance and availability, including DO-160 test methodologies for the verification of lightning survivability. Performed updates of documentation database needed to support requirements verification. Requirements management activities conducted using DOORS.
General Dynamics C4 Systems, Scottsdale, AZ.
Systems Engineer (Contract), 2006
Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS): Performed requirements analysis/decomposition in support of requirements-based engineering activities for several components of the JTRS architecture. Formal requirements tracking and specification preparation using RequisitePro, ClearCase, and ClearQuest.
Orbital Sciences Corporation, Chandler, AZ.
Senior Systems Engineer (Contract), 2003-2006
Ground-Based Missile Defense (GMD) Program: Working in DOORS, performed systems requirements analysis, decomposition, and test/verification activities to extend an existing requirements hierarchy to the component level. Created procurement specifications for all vehicle structural, avionics, pneumatic, and ordnance components as well as major propulsive elements and control systems. Evaluated qualification and acceptance test plans and procedures for compliance with customer requirements. Defined verification activities necessary to demonstrate traceability of Orbital Heritage Hardware specifications to system-level requirements.
Conducted a nuclear survivability study. Generated a specification for the temporal evolution of the nuclear environment at the vehicle location consistent with the vehicle mission profile and physical configuration.
Responsible for tracking technical issues within Orbital’s GMD program and identifying those likely to result in a requirement noncompliance. Provided a weekly report to the Prime Contractor identifying such issues as they appeared, and tracking the evolution of previously identified issues until they were resolved, either through product modification or generation of a waiver/deviation. Responsible for the coordination of waiver/deviation generation in those instances where such action was required.
Honeywell Aerospace, Glendale, AZ.
Senior Systems Engineer (Contract), 2002
Participated in a short effort (4 months) to verify documentation for flight management software written in C and C++. Evaluated product architecture and testing processes within the DO-178B framework. Two different systems were addressed, each being variants of an underlying, general architecture, but customized for different commercial jet platforms.
Provided systems engineering support to on-going software effort to update flight management displays to be consistent with customer requirements.
