∆ Bump Nonprofit Design Studio
Field Director in Latin America

Bump Nonprofit Design Studio is a nonprofit organization that developed and now distributes the OpenSocketTM, an affordable prosthetic arm for amputees without access to conventional prostheses.
Piloted the product with approximately 80 amputees in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. Linked the product development team with its target users to inform the design and engineering refinements prior to scale-up.
Collected quantitative and qualitative data through regular in-person visits and calls to a core group of users. Developed and utilised a Google-based, case-management tool to guide follow-up, and an Excel-based, issue-tracking tool to guide data analysis.
Launched the product in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Led the product development team in its interactions with users, partners, and media during its visit. Capitalised upon these advances to refine the product and secure sales.
Coordinated with approximately 30 organizations working with amputees, including public, NGO, social security, military, and private clinics. Trained, equipped, and supported the organizations to utilize the product with their patients.
Established sustainable partnerships with organizations. Notable clients included: International Committee of the Red Cross Special Fund for the Disabled, Orthopaedic Institute of Honduras, and Wuqu'Kawoq Maya Health Alliance.
Sourced materials and labour for the first ever, locally-produced product. Initiated, advised, and supported an 18 month-long project at the Universidad del Valle in Guatemala to explore local manufacturing, assembly, and distribution of the product.
Transitioned cases to partner organizations and relationships to the headquarters office. Wrote a handbook on field work for future field staff, and mentored new field staff for India and Pakistan.

Illinois Ventures is a venture capital firm that makes seed- and early-stage investments in start-up companies originating in Midwestern universities and laboratories.
Performed due diligence on prospective investments in the software, hardware, and biomedical sectors, including market and competition analyses. Reported findings to operations and management.
Wrote investment memorandums for both first-time and follow-on investments. Supported portfolio companies with research, mentoring, and strategic planning.
∆ Illini Prosthetic Technologies (IPT)

IPT was the organizational predecessor to Bump Nonprofit Design Studio (described above).
Conceived and articulated the vision and mission. Built the team of engineers, designers, and business people. Led the legal and financial formation of the organization.
Participated in the research, structured brainstorming, and prototyping processes. Conducted initial testing in Guatemala and the United States to inform design improvements.
