PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
As a structural design manager, I organized the company's structural work, and overseeing work among structure group members and sub-consultants. I was responsible for accuracy, timely delivery, and budget management of projects under my supervision. I directed, monitored, and evaluated the performance of group members. As a senior engineer I conducted structural analysis and design, prepared construction documents (plans, specifications and cost estimates), executed quality assurance and quality control protocols, reviewed shop drawings, checked constructability, reviewed and approved change orders, and carried out construction inspection.
My project experience encompasses bridges, wastewater treatment facilities, front water structures, power plants, other industrial structures, structures for public utilities (light, power and water), towers, roof top facilities including cupolas, platforms, and screens for telecommunication projects, equipment enclosure buildings, commercial and residential buildings.
The followings are examples of projects I worked on as a project engineer or as a key design engineer:
BRIDGES
Dairy Mart Road Bridge – designed a 1000' prestress concrete box girder bridge with 2 traffic lanes, 1 multi-purpose lane, pedestrian sidewalks, and viewpoints. The bridge crosses Tijuana River and carries 5 large diameter pipe lines and other utility lines; the pipelines include a 30-inch reclaimed water line, a 30-inch sewer line, a 20-inch waterline, an 8-inch gas main with a 12-inch casing, and an 8-inch line of sludge. The foundation design considered scour and liquefaction.
San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span Ramp Structure – in this project I involved ramp seismic analysis, multi-column bent design, and bent foundation design. The foundation types included huge pile caps supported by group of 8 diameter steel caissons partially filled with concrete, driven pile footings and spread footings.
San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor – the design project includes two 2-span pre-stressed concrete box girder bridges with multi-column bent, two single span prestressed concrete box girder bridges and one covered tunnel with box girder roof.
Lincoln Property Improvement Bridge – designed a precast prestressed I girder bridge crossing an open channel.
Route 125/94 Interchange (chief engineer for independent check) – the project includes 7 prestress concrete box girder bridges in the project, the largest one is a 3000' long and 140' high bridge with a split ramp (bi-fork shape) near each end of the bridge. The foundation types included cast-in-place 10.5 diameter caisson extensions, driven pile footings and spread footings.
Bridge Widening: I worked as a technical coordinator for widening and strengthening following bridges that are part of LA City's Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program.
Tujunga Avenue Bridge Widening Over Los Angeles River, Los Angeles, California – The 142-foot long, 14-foot wide, cast-in-place box girder widening on both sides of the bridge are supported on box girder abutments, and on driven pile foundations.
Fulton Avenue Bridge Widening Over Los Angeles River, Los Angeles, California – The 96-foot long, 10-foot wide, cast-in-place box girder widening on both sides of the bridge are supported on integral abutments, and on driven pile foundations.
Vanowen Street Bridge Widening over Aliso Creek Channel, Los Angeles, California – The existing 1-span, 65-foot long bridge was widened on both sides by a 9-foot wide box culvert.
Winnetka Avenue Bridge Seismic Retrofit Over Los Angeles River, Los Angeles, California – The 172-foot long steel I bridge is supported on short seat abutments, and on driven pile foundations. The project includes seismic retrofit design.
Radford Avenue Bridge Widening Over Los Angeles River, Los Angeles, California – The 69-foot long, 9-foot wide, cast-in-place box girder widening on both sides of the bridge are supported on integral abutments, and on driven pile foundations.
Strathern Street Bridge Widening Over Aliso Creek Channel, Los Angeles, California – The existing 2-span 53-foot-long bridge was widened on both sides by an 8-foot-wide box culvert.
Numerous Projects for Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit Design of Existing Bridges
1. Twelve Bridges (concrete and steel bridges), Caltrans project, complete PS&E for 2 of 12.
2. Five Bridges (all concrete bridges), Caltrans project, complete PS&E for 4 of 5.
3. San Diego River Bridge (22-span concrete bridge, T-beams supported on concrete pier walls).
4. Fairview Street Bridge over Santa Ana River (9-span concrete bridge, T-beam with pier wall bents).
5. Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Bridge over Avenue 26 (single span riveted steel-plate girder supported by 2 closed-end backfilled cantilevered RC abutments on spread footing).
6. Valley Boulevard Bridge over S.P.R.R. Railroad (4-span composite steel bridge supported on RC bents and steel truss bent).
7. Four Level Structure, the 4 level bridge include slab bridge, I girder bridge and box girder bridge – involving static and dynamic analysis.
I also did independent check work for a massive Highway 22 project in 2005.
